Prof. Eli Lederhendler

Prof. Eli Lederhendler, who holds the Stephen S. Wise Chair in American Jewish History and Institutions in the Department of Jewish History and Contemporary Jewry, serves as Chair of the Academic Committee of the Vidal Sassoon International Center for the Study of Antisemitism.

Born in the US (1952), BA, Columbia University; M.A. and Ph.D. from the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. Appointed to the faculty at Hebrew University in 1991. He is currently the Vice-Dean for Research in the Faculty of Humanities. He has served in past years as head of the Institute of Contemporary Jewry as well as head of the Institute of History.

Lederhendler's main areas of research include modern Jewish history in Europe and the United States in the 19th and 20th centuries; migration studies; Jewish cultural history; Yiddish culture.
